Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, about 30 minutes west of the Strip
Red Rock Canyon is what most couples are picturing when they say they want to get married in the desert. Sandstone cliffs in red, orange, and cream, Joshua trees, empty roads that run straight at the mountains, and all of it about 30 minutes west of the Las Vegas Strip. You can say your vows out there in the morning and be back at your hotel pool by lunch.
I’m McKenzie, and I’ve been photographing couples at Red Rock for years, more times than I can count. Every photo on this page is a real couple on their real day, at the same spots you’d be standing. That matters, because photos of the actual place beat any description I could write.
Why Red Rock Canyon works so well for eloping
The backdrops change every hundred feet. One minute you’re in a grassy wash with red cliffs behind you, the next you’re on an empty road with the whole mountain range laid out, and the light stays soft and flattering as the sun drops. You get five different looks in one hour without ever moving the car twice.
It also feels like a real adventure without being one. There’s no long hike required, most ceremony spots sit close to parking, and grandma can come. You can wear real wedding shoes. Or teal cowboy boots. I’ve photographed both, and you can see how each turned out in the gallery below.
How the Red Rock Canyon wedding permit works
Every wedding here needs an approved Special Recreation Permit from the Bureau of Land Management, applied for between 180 and 30 days before your date, first come, first served. The permit sets your ceremony site, and each site has a guest limit: up to 50 at the Red Rock Overlook, 50 at the Red Spring Platform, 12 at Ash Spring in Calico Basin, and up to 200 at the Amphitheater. The sites stay open to the public, and the park keeps things natural, so no arches, no rows of chairs, and no amplified music.
Honestly, the permit paperwork is the part that sends most couples to a chapel. So we do it for you. Our all inclusive elopement package covers the permit, a licensed Nevada officiant, my photography, a witness if you need one, music, and champagne, starting around $2,000. Tell us your date and we’ll get the permit clock started.
One more logistics note: from October 1 through May 31, cars entering the Scenic Drive between 8am and 5pm need a timed entry reservation in addition to the entry fee. It’s a small thing, but it can wreck a timeline if nobody planned for it, so we plan for it.
The best time of day for photos at Red Rock
The last hour before sunset is the sweet spot. The cliffs turn a deeper red, the desert grass goes gold, and the light gets soft enough that nobody is squinting through their vows. Most of the photos on this page came from that window.
Early morning is the underrated second choice. It’s cooler, which matters a lot from June through September, and the canyon is quieter, so your ceremony feels even more like it’s just yours. If your date lands in summer, I’ll probably talk to you about a sunrise start, and I promise it’s worth the alarm clock.

Questions
Good to know
Do you need a permit to get married at Red Rock Canyon?
Yes. Every wedding at Red Rock Canyon needs an approved Special Recreation Permit from the Bureau of Land Management, applied for between 180 and 30 days before your date. Permits are first come, first served. If you book our all inclusive elopement package, we handle the whole permit process for you.
How many guests can you bring to a Red Rock Canyon elopement?
It depends on the ceremony site. The Red Rock Overlook and the Red Spring Platform each allow up to 50 people, the Ash Spring site in Calico Basin allows 12, and the Amphitheater allows up to 200. Tell us your guest count and we'll match you with a spot that fits.
What time of day is best for Red Rock Canyon elopement photos?
The last hour or two before sunset. The cliffs light up warm and the desert glows, and that's when most of the photos on this page were taken. Early morning is the cooler, quieter backup, especially in summer.
Do you need a reservation to enter Red Rock Canyon?
From October 1 through May 31, cars entering the Scenic Drive between 8am and 5pm need a timed entry reservation on top of the entry fee. Before 8am or after 5pm, no reservation is needed. We plan your timeline around this so nobody gets stuck at the fee station.
How much does a Red Rock Canyon elopement cost?
Our all inclusive Las Vegas elopements start around $2,000 for one hour, and that covers the permit, a licensed Nevada officiant, photography, a witness if you need one, ceremony music, and champagne. The permit fees for Red Rock are part of what we handle, and booking is open now with first available dates starting November 10, 2026.
